youcanedit ==Overview== The purpose of this article is to clear up the differences and similarities of Ford vehicles equipped with shock towers and just how big of an engine you can fit between them. ==Fairlane== '62-'63 Could be ordered with inline 6 or 221, 260 or 289 cid V8 HiPo engines Engine bay is tighter than a Mustang The following Windsor engines will drop straight in: 221, 255, 260, 289, 302: Note: 351W will not fit without modifying the shock towers. Early windsors have a 5 bolt bellhousing whereas the late (possibly post-'68) have 6 bolt. Try to put a later model windsor in and you will also need a later model gearbox. *The FE engine will fit but needs shock tower modification (see Crites kits) *The Cleavland series also need shock tower modification to fit *429-460 385 series engines will also need modification ==Mustang== ===1964-1/2 to 1966=== *Came with inline 6 or small block 260/289 cid engines. *A big block will not fit between the shock towers without modifications. *The 351W will fit with right headers. ===1967 to 1970=== <br style="clear:both"/> ===1971 to 1973=== <br style="clear:both"/> ==Maverick== *Came with I6's or 302 cid small block V8. *A 351 Windsor fits easily using the right headers or exhaust manifolds. Note that the brace that connects the bottom of the shock towers on V8 equipped Maverick is missing, shown below: <br style="clear:both"/>
