Durban, South Africa, 21 January 2013 - Chubb Fire and Security has donated an intruder detection system to the Carrots and Peas soup kitchen in Kenneth Gardens following the break-in at the property on 10 January this year. The security organisation will also be providing a monitoring and response service free of charge to the charity organisation. One of the country's leading fire and security organisations, Chubb Fire and Security is part of UTC Climate, Controls and Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX). The alarm system installed by Chubb consists of an eight zone alarm panel; four passive infra-red detectors; two door contacts; an LED keypad; a battery and transformer as well as a siren. "We are delighted at the support Chubb has shown us and are exceptionally grateful for their generous and timeous donation. Not only have we been able to secure our existing building but also the newly completed renovation, a store room that was transformed into a second kitchen. In addition, the added security patrols by the Chubb response vehicles will be a definite deterrent to would-be criminals," said Joyce Gunkel. "Hopefully now we will not be seen as a soft target to criminals and we will be able to continue with the essential service we offer the community," continued Gunkel. [http://www.chubb.co.za/bridget-aves-says-chubb-fire-and-security-donates-alarm-system-to-soup-kitchen/ Bridget Aves], regional managing director of Chubb Fire and Security Kwa Zulu-Natal said her organisation was only too willing to assist an organisation who provided such a needy service to the community. "Feeding so many of our homeless and destitute citizens goes a long way to keeping petty crime at bay. We have found many of the petty crimes perpetuated are only as a result of hungry people resorting to drastic measures to feed themselves and their families," said Aves.
