Thanks! --[[User:Jon|Jon]] 17:33, 10 July 2009 (MDT) ==Articles to feature in newsletter and carousels== Not as easy as I had first thought. Here are two that might work, but I'll keep looking into this. In the meantime, the first two are relatively recent: *[http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/1940_Ford_Pickup_recessed_tail_lights 1940 Ford Pickup recessed tail lights] *[http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Adjusting_hydraulic_lifters Adjusting hydraulic lifters] The second pair are good articles IMHO, not that new though: *[http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Choosing_a_trailer Choosing a trailer] and *[http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Chrysler_Hemi_engine Chrysler Hemi engine]--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 08:08, 14 March 2012 (MDT) :Here are a few more to consider: :*[http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Gear_ratio_check Gear ratio check] :*[http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Metal_shaping Metal shaping] :*[http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Mopar_tapered_axle_rear_brake_conversion Mopar tapered axle rear brake conversion] :*[http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Pilot_bearing_and_bushings Pilot bearing and bushings] (still have photos to format) :*[http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Rust_removal_with_Ospho Rust removal with Ospho] :*[http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Narrowing_a_rearend Narrowing a rearend] :--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 22:08, 18 March 2012 (MDT) ::And ::*[http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/T-350_transmission_rebuild_tech T-350 tranny rebuild tech]--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 14:39, 19 March 2012 (MDT) :::Also :::*[http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Hot_rodding_the_HEI_distributor Hotrodding the HEI distributor]--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 05:18, 24 March 2012 (MDT) ::::I've finished going through the pages in the Best articles category. The above articles are at this time what I'd consider the most eligible. Do you want to continue adding to this as articles are submitted/edited?--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 04:07, 27 March 2012 (MDT) :::::Yes, definitely continue adding. I've already featured some of the above, and many of them are older articles. And suggestions are welcomed here, as well.--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 09:52, 7 April 2012 (MDT) ==Cobalt327 Discussion== Jon, how much open discussion do you want to have here on the record? I feel Cobalt327 is trying exert authority he does not have and never will. My bad ===Cobalt327 the HR.com offender?=== Cobalt treated me so poorly on HR.com and called me the "worse" moderator he had ever seen on any forum. That is part of where my distrust for him comes from. Cobalt should have been suspended multiple times for his method of treating members on HR.com, he was not. Cobalt would edit out his inflammatory posts. The 'edit' time limit was shortened by Jon. Who complained the loudest? Cobalt327. Why was Cobalt not suspended? The answer given by many involved in the discussion; Because Cobalt327 contributes enough good tech info from internet search engines. . Another answer provided was; coblat327 provides a 'useful service' ===Cobalt comes to Crankshaft Wiki=== After what seemed to be paranoid thoughts , impressions or something on the Crankshaft Wiki (here in referred to as the Wiki)... Cobalt327 joins and proceeds forward. Soon he provides his extensive internet search engine knowledge to the Wiki ===Soon Cobalt and Crosley butt heads=== Primarily on the T-350 Rebuild Tech article. Cobalt altered the T-350 Rebuild thread name. This cancels links Crosley has in place on sites. Cobalt adds incorrect information or fotos. Crosley corrects. Cobalts corrects Crosley edits, Crosley not happy. Cobalt adds non rebuild tech stuff. Crosley removes it. Cobalt 327 not(unknown) happy? Crosley does not care. Cobalt327 may not care either. ===Cobalt327 adds signature for Crosley=== On the the talk page : [http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Talk:T-350_rebuild_tech T-350 Rebuild Talk] Cobalt has now added my signature to a location I did not add. '''I concider that a gross personal violation.''' ===Cobalt group hug=== Also on the same [http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Talk:T-350_rebuild_tech T-350 Rebuild Talk] page Cobalt posts; '''"There is no need for continued animosity. I again will say that I'm willing to put the past behind us in an effort to maintain a decent working relationship. That's all I can do, the rest is up to you"''' Crosley's answer is : '''Well, of course the worse offender always wants to "put things behind us"''' ;-) ===Cobalt points out more mistakes Crosley made=== Also in the T-350 Talk page: Cobalt posts and links to the "Help " pages on editing Talk discussion. Crosley found this: '''Delete discussions when they are out-of-date;Discussions can often get left lying around on a talk page long after the issue is no longer relevant. It's usually a good idea to reply to saying "I think this is now resolved", but sooner or later it's time to just blow away the old discussions (they are of course preserved in the editing history).''' Crosley edited out old discussion. Crosley was trying to move on. The article by Jake is so diluted in the current article. Jakes article was a performance build and incomplete. I modified the article to a generic T-350 rebuild. Crosley thought that was the point of a Wiki. A constant update - improvement of the article. Crosley added comments on the "talk page" of the T-350 article about Jakes OE article as inspiration for the current Wiki article as suggested by Jon... Cobalt altered the talk page again, the method of the Wiki. LOL ===Why keep old fotos when article is updated?=== I deleted old photos. Why maintain the old photos on server space that someone has to pay $ for ? When does "long enough" apply to maintaining old information? ===Cobalt327 reloads fotos=== I knew cobalt would reload the old fotos. I enjoy providing him the avenue for tasks, I guess. My bad... does that comment 'my bad' , make it all OK? ;-) ===Dont delete Cobalt's fotos=== Coblat327 asks me to not delete any photos he uploaded. I have not to my knowledge. Even the incorrect photos Cobalt placed in the T-350 Rebuild Tech article with powerglide parts shown. I did not delete that foto as I recall. Cobalt327 does not even know what he posts on some articles. ===Cobalt and terminology=== Bell Housing or bellhousing? Rear end or rearend? TH350 or THM 350 or T-350? A fellow I know still calls a T-400 an '''AT-400'''. A term long lost on most folks. ===Cobalt repackages internet search info=== Cobalt327 gathers internet info, repackages it, he becomes a hero. In my eyes cobalt327 is a zero, not to be trusted. ===Cobalt327 is NOT a dumb ass=== With people like Cobalt327 editing Wiki articles, that explains why so many folks do not trust Wiki information. When Crosley jumped on the internet in late 1996 (what little existed) ... Crosley had the foolish idea I could stop or slow down the incorrect information on the web on the subject of automatic transmissions. With people like Cobalt327 that regurgitate any information on all subjects, the cycle will continue forever. Dont mistake my words here for a blanket statement that Cobalt327 is a complete dumb ass, I am sure he is not an unmitigated dumb ass. === OH My Gosh === OH, let me apologize to Cobalt327 (LOL) since I am sure I did not type his full user name correctly each time, I did not space correctly, I did not capitalize correctly, I did not link each spot correctly, I did not punctuate correctly, I did not catch all mis-speeled words, I did not 'do things' as others do on other Wiki sites, did I mention extra spaces?, and his OCD will point that out in a longer response with more '''bold text''' than I used since he has to do more at anything than others have before him. I figure I forgot a few items, Cobalt327 will correct me. I apologize again if I forgot something. If I do not remember forgetting, does it still count as forgetful? ===I add signature before Cobalt does it for me=== oh hell, I will sign this message before cobalt327 signs it for me. [[User:Crosley|Crosley]] 22:02, 2 April 2012 (MDT) I added some extra spaces to ::To clarify, yes, I want this discussed in the open, as well as any future conflicts between yourselves or among any other wiki editors. I don't yet have a specific resolution to the above conflict, but I will consider how to move forward.--[[User:Jon|Jon]] 12:27, 5 April 2012 (MDT) ==Proposed move of Crosley discussion/commentary== Jon, a more appropriate place for this discussion might be [http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/User:Cobalt327 HERE]. If you agree let me know or just move it over there yourself. If you think this discussion belongs here on ''your'' talk page, then that’s OK, too.--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 02:05, 3 April 2012 (MDT) :Here is fine. As I see it, one or both of you guys are appealing to me for assistance in resolving a conflict. I'm not ignoring this...--[[User:Jon|Jon]] 12:13, 5 April 2012 (MDT) ::My opinion on deleting images is [[Talk:T-350 rebuild tech#History|HERE]]. My take on the rest is that it's largely one-sided personal opinions- some of events that occurred long ago. I've found that trying to change someone's perception of events is usually unsuccessful. I have stated my desire to leave the past in the past and move forward from there- twice. At this juncture I'm not inclined to respond further.--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 15:51, 5 April 2012 (MDT) ==Odd page displayed after saving a page== Every time I save a page, I'm getting error message/pages. I'm also being prompted to answer the spam prevention question- even when no external link is being saved. Anyway, the screenshots below is what appears after a save (the saves have been successful even though error messages are displayed). When a file uploaded or an edited page is saved, if the page is refreshed after the error message page comes up, this prompts another file or page save identical to the one just made. That's why there are several identical "File:400steam holes deck.jpg" images and Q-jet rebuild article pages uploaded one after another. Obviously, duplicates can be deleted (I don't seem to be able to do that myself, sorry).--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 18:56, 4 April 2012 (MDT) :Links to screenshots of the error message pages: :http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/File:Screenshot_error_page_after_saving_edited_article.jpg :http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/File:Screenshot_after_file_upload.jpg :http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/File:Screenshot_error_page.jpg :--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 08:16, 5 April 2012 (MDT) ::Thanks, I can confirm that I'm seeing these sorts of errors too. Working on it...--[[User:Jon|Jon]] 12:15, 5 April 2012 (MDT) ==Using someone's original info in CC wiki article== I plan to start work soon on a page about combustion chamber quench. I was given the go-ahead by oldbogie via PM (on 1-20-12) to use info from various Hotrodders forum posts he made on the subject (as well as my original text). Would you like me to ask him to send you confirmation before I submit the article to the CC wiki (I didn't think to do this at the time)? Also, how long should permission like this be kept? Right now it’s saved in one of my PM folders at the Hotrodders forum (other permission statements are in my email folder) and can remain there for the duration… is that good enough? I may be being overly cautious, but I just want to be sure I’m on solid ground here. Thanks, [[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 16:44, 9 April 2012 (MDT) :I think you're right to be overly cautious, and we may eventually need some sort of formal legal agreement to cover this. I think, for now, just hold on to the PM. As I understand it (as a non-lawyer), the only person who could bring legal action against the wiki for this type of activity would be oldbogie, and if he's granted permission, I doubt he would renege.--[[User:Jon|Jon]] 11:55, 10 April 2012 (MDT) ==Proposed template use== I created a template, <nowiki>{{sign}} </nowiki> (modeled after the entry at the top of your user talk page), that has brief instructions on signing entries (like on article discussion pages and user talk pages) that says: “{{sign}}”. Do you see any benefit in adding it to discussion pages preemptively? My thoughts are that it might avoid [http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Talk:Narrowing_a_rearend this]. If not, it can be used on a case-by-case basis, no problem.--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 15:18, 17 April 2012 (MDT) :For now I've decided to leave this alone. If/when there's a need the template exists or another one can be created, or it can be done by some other means altogether. If the contributors read the info carefully enough there shouldn't be a big problem anyway.--[[Special:Contributions/75.131.4.85|75.131.4.85]] 17:42, 18 April 2012 (MDT) ::OK, that sounds fine. It might not be a bad idea to see if we can add that message by default to all Talk pages.--[[User:Jon|Jon]] 19:03, 18 April 2012 (MDT) :::Other wikis that I edit use only four tildes (<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>) to generate a date stamped signature. If we are going to use a tilde shortcut here, I believe it should conform to the standards used elsewhere so there is no confusion. If the two dashes are needed for some reason here, then they should be automatically added to the signature output, not prepended to the input string. :::More info at Wikipedia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sign_your_posts_on_talk_pages|Wikipedia Signatures]. --[[User:Mmerlinn|Mmerlinn]] 15:22, 22 April 2012 (MDT) ==Turning questions into articles== I've been thinking of more ways to drum up some interest/activity here. The page [[Turning questions into articles]] is an excellent concept and could be a really good way to show someone new to the wiki just how easily an article can be started. Could it be made more visible? Maybe a link on the Main page, or as part of the [[9 things you need to know about the Crankshaft Coalition wiki]], or ?--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 02:25, 19 April 2012 (MDT) :The actual page itself probably wouldn't work, as-is (it's almost like an internal memo), but the ''concept'' is a good one.--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 01:48, 22 April 2012 (MDT) ==Deleting old titles from the Candidates for deletion page== Jon, the article titles on the [http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Category:Candidates_for_deletion Candidates for deletion] page can all be deleted. The articles themselves were deleted except for [[1961 buick special rear end conversion]] which I placed into the Incomplete category as it has some value, IMO (it wasn’t placed there by you, however the rest of the deleted articles were, back in late ‘09).--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 01:48, 22 April 2012 (MDT) :I developed/moved the saved article [[1961-'63 Buick Special/Olds F-85 rear end conversion]] into a usable page (IMHO). If you agree, it can be removed from the ''Candidates for deletion'' page. Thanks. --[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 23:09, 2 May 2012 (MDT) ::Sure thing, go for it.--[[User:Jon|Jon]] 12:45, 3 May 2012 (MDT) ==Navigation== Jon, it would be nice if when navigating away from a page by clicking on a link, etc. (like when clicking on the AMC V-8s page from the "Engine" page as an example), that when using the back button to return to the original (Engine) page that the position of the page would be the same as where it was when the page was left, and not just be returned to the top of the page. I don't know if 'anchor links' is what would do this or what, I only briefly researched it before appealing to you.--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 22:21, 28 April 2012 (MDT) :By my understanding, we aren't going to be able to do this "server-side", by altering anything on our end, and that it's a "client-side", browser-dependent issue. When I use Safari as my browser, using the back button returns me to the position of the page when it was left.--[[User:Jon|Jon]] 22:48, 28 April 2012 (MDT) ::I'll look into possible changes to my Chrome settings, thanks.--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 22:50, 28 April 2012 (MDT)
