{{develop}} ==Ford solenoid== [[Image:Starter solenoid and relay.JPG]] At the left side of the photograph above, a remote Ford-type starter solenoid is shown. Connection at the left side goes to battery, connection at the right goes to starter, in this case to a high torque starter. The small terminals are the connections to the ignition switch and to the coil; the coil connection is used to bypass the inline coil resistor during starting. ==GM solenoid== The GM starter-mounted solenoid can be renewed if it becomes sluggish. The terminals inside the solenoid become burned and worn over time, but these terminals can be removed, rotated 180 degrees, and reinstalled to provide the internal contact disc of the solenoid brand new terminal contacts. This, along with cleaning off the contact disc itself, will give new life to a tired solenoid.
