{{Note1}}{{Sign2}} To use: The 194 head is the only head that will raise compression ratios on the other engines. The other engines (230, 250, 292) all use a similar size chamber within a few cc's of each other, depending on the exact year and application. * 194 head: 60cc or 73cc. * 230-292 heads: 72cc-74cc, and 75.5cc (230 head casting number 3872708) * 292: 72cc and 74cc All 194-292 intakes will interchange. [[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 09:01, 4 December 2012 (MST) There were a few years (1971-'74) that had the 5/8" hex peanut plug AND the non integrated head. The integrated head was used '75-up. The integrated heads were 1-barrel until about '79 when the Varijet staged 2-barrel began to be used. [http://www.hotsixes.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=25&Itemid=43 Hotsixes home page] ID: The motor mounts of a 292 are staggered and the fuel pump is mid-block. The smaller Chevy inline sixes have the motor mounts directly across from each other, and the fuel pump is closer to the front of the block. The 194-250 engines have the water pump hole in the front of the block about 0.25" from the deck surface. The 292 w/p hole is about 1.5". Also the side covers on a 194-250 are about 4.5" tall while the 292 is about 6" tall. Head casting numbers: 382 prefix of casting number = GMC? c/n- [http://inliners.org/casting/numbers.html] Inliners.org block casting numbers 261's had a head with the casting number ending with 850. If you think you have a 261, look in front of the starter for two small raised lines (Army Captain's bars) on the passenger side. Also look just above the oil pan rail on the driver's side for two oil lines or pipe plugs, one above the other. 261's were set up to install a full-flow oil filter, as an alternative to the crappy bypass filters that were in common use.
