{{Note1}}{{Sign2}} ==Domed pistons== Consider this: These heads have 170cc intake runners. As such, they will do a very good job on a 355 small block Chevy motor when used as a daily driver with a flat-top or dished piston. If a builder has high static compression ratio in mind for the build, he would be silly to use the small runner heads with domed pistons to make high-rpm horsepower because the heads will stall sooner than larger runner heads . He'd naturally choose a different head that would flow more CFM. Therefore, I see no use for domed pistons to be used with L31 heads. An excellent 9.60:1 static compression ratio 355 street motor that will operate on pump gas can be built using a 12cc dished piston and 5.7" rods..... Techinspector1 :The thing is, there are more Vortec heads than just the 170 cc intake port volume production L31 casting number's 062/904 out there. :In the case of the Bow Tie Vortec large port heads (225 cc before porting), they can make well over 600 HP- and in max output situations they need all the CR they can get. These heads can only be milled to about 51 cc so if any additional CR is needed, it can only come from welding the chambers or domed pistons.--[[User:Cobalt327|Cobalt327]] 14:29, 3 January 2013 (MST)
