Editing Crankshaft

The crankshaft is that mechanical part in a reciprocating combustion engine able to perform a conversion between reciprocating motion and rotational motion. It translates the reciprocating motion of the pistons into rotational motion. In order to do the conversion between two motions, the crankshaft has "crank throws" or "crankpins" to which the rods are attached and whose axis is offset from that of the crank. One could consider the crankshaft as the backbone of the engine finally delivering the rotational output to drive a vehicle or shaft.
