{The name, EVA, derived from Evergreen Airways which was the original name of EVA. When Evergreen Airways needed to change their name, all they did was take the EVA from their original name. Another airline business had the name Evergreen in it already, so they decided to change their name. If you are flying in or out of Taiwan, you very possibly are on an airplane that is part of EVA Airways. EVA's past history is much the same as any other airline, because they all experience similar things. EVA and the other airlines that survived the hard times in the early 2000s, have bounced back to profitability. Although they are an international company, their home base is in Luzhu, Taiwan. The president of the company, Chang Kuo-wei, has done an excellent job in establishing this companies international presence. Board members make up a secondary aspect of how this company is operated. The direction of the company is under the helm of Lin Bou-shiu who has been in this position since 2011. EVA is involved with partnerships outside of air passenger carriers. Their oversight is not limited only to passenger flights but to additional services including Evergreen Laurel hotels. The nonprofit Grand Circle Foundation has donated more than $97 million to educational, humanitarian, and cultural organizations worldwide since 1992, including 100 schools, in 50 countries. In the mid period of the 1990s, EVA wanted to develop the internal market for air travelers, within Taiwan. Desperately wanting to take the market, three additional airlines were purchased by EVA. Combining airlines is a way to take over a market, so adding Taiwan Airways, Great China Airlines, and Makung International Airlines, was what EVA did. These three airlines merged together, in 1998, to form one large airline called UNI Air. The domestic transportation aspect of EVA grew larger with the addition of UNI Air under the control of EVA. All of the flight operations that take place in the whole country are provided by UNI Air. {} Like every other airlines, the rising fuel costs starting in 2007 caused horrible financial problems for EVA. No matter what the reason for business losses, it is still hard to take, especially for airlines during higher fuel costs. Sometimes a business loses money through no fault of its own, and that happened to the airline industry. The airline industry is a special type of business because it is so depending on lower fuel costs to continue to operate. Any type of cost reduction procedures, will cut out some jobs, but that is what it takes to save a company, and this is what it took for EVA to survive. Though based in Asia, EVA Air is always seeking to maintain and grow their international presence. Travel has never been better for those in Europe and Asia because of the business and economy travel packages that they offer. There was a period in the mid-2000s when EVA struggled with profit losses due to escalating fuel fees. Those that ran the company made tough decisions that allow them to begin to profit once again during this financial crisis. This airline was not the only one that suffered because of the rising fuel costs. Although its home base is in Taiwan, it was able to get an international presence which is truly a great airline success story.|Many successful airlines in the travel industry have dominated their niche markets. For a couple of decades now, EVA Air has set the standard for airline excellence. International destinations throughout the world including Asia are part of the routes of this little-known airline. What is impressive about EVA is they entered into the international competition quite soon after they opened their doors. Unusual for an airline, this company is privately funded. Their track record is very sound with expansion that occurs in a gradual but aggressive manner. EVA, from many outlooks, had an eventful year in 2010. Aside from lengthening their routes and mixing up their management, they were able to place bids for more collaborations. By way of a new service route to Toronto, the company was able to set up additional inroads for cities in Canada. As the year progressed, they introduced a connection flight from Taipei to Tokyo Japan. Taken as a whole, the year was potent as the company accounted that their annual profits had progressed. There will be an anticipation of new development aptitudes in the midway. The explanation for this is EVA has placed their application with the Star Alliance of linked airlines. Following approval of the application, EVA will have even greater things taking place. Their expansion into the international market began about 10 years ago and they haven't stopped yet. They were able to do this because they had an air fleet that made it possible for this to happen. To this end, the airline placed orders for four of Boeing's 777-300ER long range heavy aircraft. Additional Boeing 777 airliners were also ordered around the same time. The long-range aircraft and airliners were used to garner business from Europe and also the United States. To increase their capability of serving the Asian community, Airbus A330-200 were also ordered. {} By the later 2000s, EVA was continuing to expand as they were regularly experiencing profitable quarters. The East Coast became their target after 2006 adding Newark New Jersey to their destination route. 2008 marked the year that their Paris to Taiwan flights were reinstated bringing the company even more money. As usual, as with many other airlines, destination and schedule changes were all part of their daily schedule. The strength of the company began to increase as a result of these changes that allowed them to expand. All airlines are controlled by the economy of the whole world, and EVA Air did a good job staying afloat. For a business that started in 1989, they have an interesting history. They are still progressing in their design of capturing the domestic air travel within Taiwan. Now with better times again, EVA has passenger jets on order, and wants to expand international travel. When fiscal numbers returned to profitability again in the later 2000s, it was good times for EVA. As a non-public, international airline, what EVA has been able to do is very remarkable. When the public is able to share in the backing, it makes it less impressive.
