Editing How To Side-Step The Worst Networking Mistakes

Knowing about anyone you have an appointment with is critical, and this is also networking. The personal things like meetings and having lunch are not the usual outcomes from networking, though. So don't commit the blunder of asking about family and kids and that sort of thing - leave it all out. You will be meeting the person about business, most likely, and that's when you can ask about the business. Unless you have a very clear reason for your business teaming up with another, you may want to restrict any overt invitations to lunch, etc. You need to be careful when you are calling another business person for certain reasons. You can see how incredibly dumb this approach is even if sometimes you do encounter it. Actually this is a great example of a mistake because this is the kind of thing that can totally ruin your reputation. Anything remotely resembling this tactic should be immediately dismissed because it's so bad. Having a meeting for the first time is fine, and be sure you use common sense. So this is fine and you should try to do this so you can see if anything else can come about. But do not launch into your sales presentation because that usually doesn't work well. Networking is about building mutually beneficial relationships. Ask the other person how they conduct their business, and what they think of you and your products. This is all learning experience for you, so don't be stressed about any mistakes and don't even consider them. There are all sorts of things that you can do to be a better networker. And you must learn how to work around mistakes so you don't make them. Don't worry-if you keep working and learning you'll get to where you want to go.
