Get in the habit of following-up anytime you call or write to a prospect. What you want to do is touch on the needs you can fill and why it's in their best interest. It's usually best to wait a day or two but no more than that and this will refresh their memory. And of course there's nothing wrong with finding out what others do about their follow up intervals. The important thing with this is you must take advantage of contacting them, again. Never come across sounding desperate, and be calm and don't fool around. People are always busy, usually, and business owners or consumers will not appreciate having their time wasted with a cold call. Don't be shy about rescheduling for another time, and that will usually be approved. If they will listen to what you have to say, then be brief and you're in. They'll remember your respect and be more likely to take your call or respond to your email in the future. If you do not sell products during the initial call, you will make out better in the end. When you make that initial call, only let the owner know of your existence and what you want to offer. Do not talk for a long time. You want it to seem that you are offering your assistance only. Until the owner gives you the go ahead, refrain from selling products at this time. Do not worry if you do not get a chance to sell anything on the first call. They'll remember that you tried to be helpful and be more likely to buy your product later when you actually need it. You can sell to them when you call again. But, keep in mind that you will profit more in the end if you refrain from making a sales pitch on that first call. There are all sorts of small details that come into play when you are trying to make money through cold calling. Of course the beginning will be the roughest, but you have to keep on moving forward and you'll be fine. Cold calling scares most people, so imagine how fearless you will become once you have mastered this killer marketing method.
