Aluminum loses it's sheen through oxidation, which is the same process through which iron turns to rust. Bare aluminum can oxidize simply in the presence the air we breathe. Take caution before using chemicals that may have an adverse reation to aluminum. Aluminum is a soft metal, so scrub brushes with brass or stainless bristles may scratch the finish. ==Cleaning painted parts== As with cleaning aluminum parts, the paint on the parts may have a chemical reaction to certain cleaners that could effect or remove the finish or even damage the plastic part the paint is applied to. Read all labels before use and avoid using hard-bristled or metal-bristled brushes when cleaning. ==Need to review== *http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=94624 *http://www.stingerchemicals.com/products/degreasers.html *http://simplegreen.com *http://www.zepcommercial.com/products.asp?category=3 *[http://forum.ih8mud.com/workshop-home-improvement/170637-engine-degreaser-recipe.html steam cleaner alternative] *http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/chassis-suspension-parts-cleanup-proceedure-83633.html *http://www.clean-rite.com/ *http://www.zepcommercial.com/products.asp?category=3 *https://www.berrymanproducts.com/ ==References== *http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/carbureater-cleaner-161433.html *http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/carb-cleaner-alternatives-128403.html *http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131472 *http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/can-anyone-recommend-good-degreaser-88337.html *http://www.turbododge.com/forums/f4/f15/73822-engine-degreaser.html [[Category:Garage and shop]]
