Cobalt327 Discussion
+
Recent "new" page
Jon, how much open discussion do you want to have here on the record?
+
A page Spark advance was recently added. This is a cut and paste of a widely circulated 'article' that is all over the 'net. As it stands now this page does not have a category specified, so is in limbo. Any suggestions as to what to do w/it?--Cobalt327 18:25, 22 June 2012 (MDT)

:I'm leaving it w/o a category. This can be changed if anyone wants.--Cobalt327 05:49, 25 June 2012 (MDT)

::My view is that we should delete these. We don't allow copypasta, unless we can prove that its copyright status is such that we can reproduce it here, or unless the copied text is so small (de minimis) that it doesn't matter.--Jon 11:10, 25 June 2012 (MDT)

:::I'll go ahead and delete it.--Cobalt327 13:25, 25 June 2012 (MDT)

I feel Cobalt327 is trying exert authority he does not have and never will. My bad

Blocking of IPs
 +
You may have noticed a large number of recently blocked IPs. I'm sure you are aware that if the Recent changes are viewed using the enhanced recent changes (in 'my preferences'/Recent changes), the list of blocked IPs is compacted into an expandable tab so it doesn't take up a large amount of space. These IPs were found on various article's discussion pages (mainly, some have also been found in the history of the actual article page). The IPs belonged to spammers that had their content removed, but the IPs were not blocked by a previous admin. In some cases this resulted in numerous reposted spam. Because these occurred some time ago, this may be closing the stable door after the horse has bolted, but my thoughts were if I'm there anyway I would block them. Is this unnecessary?--Cobalt327 22:49, 30 June 2012 (MDT)
 +
:I wasn't even aware of that option! Maybe it was added with the software upgrade. Agreed on blocking those IPs.--Jon 23:57, 30 June 2012 (MDT)
 +
::Kinda off topic, but I remember asking some time ago about having an expanded view of the Recent changes; I couldn't get the page to respond to changing the options at the top of the page. I found that by going to 'my preferences'/Watchlist I could select 7 days/1000 changes.--Cobalt327 18:58, 1 July 2012 (MDT)

:::Interesting, thanks. I need to review all of the preferences.--Jon 12:40, 2 July 2012 (MDT)

'Purpose-built fixture for engine stand'
The text and related images have been deleted and Neighbor's user accounts blocked at the request of Neighbors. The text and images were originally located on the Transmission holding fixtures page and had been removed from there and placed on the discussion page of that article until clarification was presented.

Cobalt327 the HR.com offender?
Cobalt treated me so poorly on HR.com and called me the "worse" moderator he had ever seen on any forum. That is part of where my distrust for him comes from.
+

Cobalt should have been suspended multiple times for his method of treating members on HR.com, he was not. Cobalt would edit out his inflammatory posts. The 'edit' time limit was shortened by Jon. Who complained the loudest?  Cobalt327.
+
:That's fine. IANAL, but Neighbors's portrayal of copyright law may be incomplete. The wiki is clear, via the text beneath the posting box: "If you do not want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, then do not submit it here. You are also promising us that you wrote this yourself, or copied it from a public domain or similar free resource. Do not submit copyrighted work without permission!". AFAIK, copyright law has limited recognition of "gimme-backsies". Once you release something into the public domain, or the Creative Commons license that we use, (as long as you are legally entitled to license it accordingly in the first place!), it's very difficult to retract (though not technically impossible, see Golan v. Holder). Not really an issue in this case, but, in the future, if you come across a user who is demanding a significant deletion, you likely don't need to comply, especially as their contributions may be intermingled with the contributions of other editors, and too difficult to disentangle. In some situations, you may encounter users who, simply out of spite, demand that all of their contributions be deleted. Per their use of the wiki, they will most likely have previously abandoned the right to make that demand.--Jon 21:59, 17 September 2012 (MDT)

Why was Cobalt not suspended?  The answer given by many involved in the discussion; Because Cobalt327 contributes enough good tech info from internet search engines. . Another answer provided was; coblat327 provides a 'useful service'
+
::Thanks for the clarification, Jon. I felt in this particular case that the content that was requested to be removed could be deleted w/o causing any problems w/the continuity of the article as a whole, since it had already been removed from the article itself. That's mainly why I made the decision to delete as requested. For the record, rest assured had this issue been any more involved I would have asked for your advice and guidance in handling it.--Cobalt327 07:38, 18 September 2012 (MDT)

Wiki bugs
 +
Helena has called for any bugs on the Hotrodders forum to be posted so they can be addressed, and so far I have avoided asking much about the CC wiki's problems/fixes. I was wondering at what point should I ask about the wiki, or are you (hopefully) handling this personally?--Cobalt327 07:38, 18 September 2012 (MDT)
 +
:Helena has been provided with a list of the Hotrodders.com bugs, and a link to the list of wiki bugs. I think we should get the HR bugs handled first, and then try to prioritize the wiki bugs.--Jon 20:04, 18 September 2012 (MDT)

Primarily on the T-350 Rebuild Tech article.  Cobalt altered the T-350 Rebuild thread name. This cancels links Crosley has in place on sites. Cobalt adds incorrect information or fotos. Crosley corrects. Cobalts corrects Crosley edits, Crosley not happy. Cobalt adds non rebuild tech stuff.  Crosley removes it. Cobalt 327 not(unknown) happy?  Crosley does not care. Cobalt327 may not care either.

Email notifications of changes
If you have chosen to receive them, are you getting email notification when a page on your watchlist or your user talk page is changed? I have selected these options on my Preferences page but I'm not getting any emails. On the the talk page : T-350 Rebuild Talk  Cobalt has now added my signature to a location I did not add. I concider that a gross personal violation.

Since 11-17-12 there has been a relatively large number of new user accounts created. Googling the various screen names shows many to be randomly joining many different forums. Maybe spambots? If so maybe a character recognition prompt at sign up would help. But in any event, just wanted to let you know that this was happening for whatever reason.

Delete discussions when they are out-of-date;Discussions can often get left lying around on a talk page long after the issue is no longer relevant. Crosley edited out old discussion. Crosley was trying to move on. The article by Jake is so diluted in the current article. Jakes article was a performance build and incomplete. I modified the article to a generic T-350 rebuild. Crosley thought that was the point of a Wiki. A constant update - improvement of the article.

Crosley added comments on the "talk page" of the T-350 article about Jakes OE article as inspiration for the current Wiki article as suggested by Jon...  Cobalt altered the talk page again, the method of the Wiki. LOL

Spam
 +
On a daily basis I have been removing a large amount of spam and blocking the users. I took a short break (approximately 60 hours) from deleting the spam here at the CC wiki, when I came back there were over 200 deletions and an additional 180 users to be blocked that needed to be done. This took several hours. Since I am not in a position to implement any procedures to prevent spam from entering the wiki, I am requesting that something more be done to prevent it as my time is better spent on other pursuits (both here and elsewhere).--Cobalt327 20:36, 22 November 2013 (MST)

:Thanks Cobalt327; I'm going to bring this issue up with Helena, and hopefully we can get some new anti-spam features installed.--Jon 11:08, 23 November 2013 (MST)

::Even a way to expedite the blocking of users where more than one at a time could be processed would be a big help. Same for deleting pages, although either or both may be impractical if not impossible to do from a programming/software standpoint. Had nearly 500 deletions and 350 blocked users to process on 12-02-13 after returning from a short break from the wiki- and there's still nearly 14 hours left in the day (EST here).--Cobalt327 08:34, 2 December 2013 (MST)

Jon- pls. take a look at the discussion between myself and user 'Centerline' under Article credits on my user discussion page. Do you have a comment or direction as to how to better handle this? Was considering removing the article or directing Centerline to remove it but stopped short of doing that until I contacted you. Thanks.--Cobalt327 17:46, 23 February 2016 (MST)
I deleted old photos.  Why maintain the old photos on server space that someone has to pay $ for ?  When does "long enough" apply to maintaining old information?

Cobalt327 reloads fotos
I knew cobalt would reload the old fotos. I enjoy providing him the avenue for tasks, I guess. My bad... does that comment 'my bad' ,  make it all OK?  ;-)

Dont delete Cobalt's fotos
Coblat327 asks me to not delete any photos he uploaded. I have not to my knowledge.  Even the incorrect photos Cobalt placed in the T-350 Rebuild Tech article with powerglide parts shown. I did not delete that foto  as I recall. Cobalt327 does not even know what he posts on some articles.

Cobalt and terminology
Bell Housing or bellhousing?  Rear end or rearend?  TH350 or THM 350 or T-350?  A fellow I know still calls a T-400 an AT-400.  A term long lost on most folks.

Cobalt327 is NOT a dumb ass
With people like Cobalt327 editing Wiki articles, that explains why so many folks do not trust Wiki information. When Crosley jumped on the internet in late 1996 (what little existed) ...  Crosley had the foolish idea I could stop or slow down the incorrect information on the web on the subject of automatic transmissions.  With people like Cobalt327 that regurgitate any information on all subjects, the cycle will continue forever.  Dont mistake my words here for a blanket statement that  Cobalt327 is a complete dumb ass, I am sure he is not an unmitigated dumb ass.

I figure I forgot a few items, Cobalt327 will correct me. I apologize again if I forgot something. If I do not remember forgetting, does it still count as forgetful?

:::If Cobalt327 (or anyone else) places incorrect information in an article, it should be corrected or deleted; that process is what wiki is all about. If there's a conflict about whether information is correct or not, it should be addressed in the Talk page for that article.
