Images on Main Page
As for the lower row of images, strange they look distorted to you. Looks fine on my end, but I'll put them back as they were before. Are the top row of images OK?--Cobalt327 14:22, 15 March 2012 (MDT)

:Alright, I think I know what happened. I had made those images a while back specifically for the homepage (not exactly sure why; possibly some formatting issue), and they're only ~112px tall: http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/images/4/49/Homethumb2.jpg . When they get stretched beyond that, they start to look strange. Yes, top row looks fine.--Jon 14:40, 15 March 2012 (MDT)

Spam
I ran across a bit of spam in Freeing a stuck engine by user 27.126.152.82. All I did was undo revision 21208 to revert to previous version before I edited the article. Don't know if this gets this user "the boot" or what, but thought I'd mention it.--Cobalt327 02:00, 18 March 2012 (MDT)

:Sounds fine. Don't forget there's a difference between a revert (roll back to an exact, historical version), and an undo (undo specific changes). An undo isn't always possible or feasible.--Jon 11:36, 18 March 2012 (MDT)

::"Undo" wasn't a wiki reference, per se. It was simply what I (thought) I did when I reverted back to a previous version. Make sense?--Cobalt327 19:15, 18 March 2012 (MDT)

:::Ah, got it, thanks.--Jon 19:38, 18 March 2012 (MDT)

Not as easy as I had first thought. Here are two that might work, but I'll keep looking into this. In the meantime, the first two are relatively recent:

::::::SBC cylinder head identification has gotten revisions that include more text, photos and links along w/being moved from Cylinder head identification to SBC cylinder head identification. While the original page dates from 2009, it was only recently (2-2012) expanded into an actual page. I am open to constructive criticism and/or suggestions on how to improve it so it might be used in the newsletter or a carousel.

::::::Same thing for Building an inline 6 Chevy 250 engine; it too was recently revised into an actual article from a stub dating from 2009. And suggestions are welcomed here, as well.--Cobalt327 09:52, 7 April 2012 (MDT)

File list use guidelines
Where can I find guidelines for using files that have been previously uploaded by other members (specifically, images)? So far I've been contacting active members through the Hotrodders forum PM system.--Cobalt327 11:46, 28 March 2012 (MDT)

:What specifically are you trying to find out?--Jon 13:19, 28 March 2012 (MDT)

::If permission is needed before using an image and if so how to best go about getting it.--Cobalt327 13:26, 28 March 2012 (MDT)

:::I would think you're probably good to go. If an image was uploaded to the wiki, and its copyright status is legitimate, it should be fine to use it in any article (I'm sure you've noticed on Wikipedia how the same images are used in different articles). What's the image?--Jon 13:41, 28 March 2012 (MDT)

::::Sanding blocks, I used it in the buffing article its now linked to. BTW, I already contacted Irelands child for permission, which he gave...--Cobalt327 13:57, 28 March 2012 (MDT)

:::::OK, I think that's fine.--Jon 16:37, 30 March 2012 (MDT)

Suspicious file
Ran across this file in my travels...Spam?--Cobalt327 14:52, 31 March 2012 (MDT)

:Yes, thanks, deleted it.--Jon 21:11, 31 March 2012 (MDT)

Deleting images
I have some images I want to delete (duplicates, a couple that have copyright issues, some that were uploaded w/o proper formatting on my end, etc.). I do not see a way to do this, can you point me to where I can find info on this?--Cobalt327 13:46, 1 April 2012 (MDT)

:I believe this requires admin privileges. List the images here and I'll take care of it.--Jon 23:19, 7 April 2012 (MDT)

::That's what I was afraid of. Listing them here individually would be something of a miserable chore- there are quite a few and they are spaced throughout the file list. Maybe I could toss them here as I bump into them or something. And I'll see what I can do to possibly streamline listing them.

Using _NOTOC_
Does not remove the table of contents when I use it, any idea why that is?--Cobalt327 21:57, 1 April 2012 (MDT)

:Try with two underscores on either side of the word.--Jon 23:18, 7 April 2012 (MDT)

::I tried to use it just as I typed it above (w/underscores), but it didn't work. I haven't tried it in a while, after I do again I'll post back if still doesn't work. Thanks.--Cobalt327 00:41, 8 April 2012 (MDT)

:::Sorry, I should've said "each side", instead of "either side". Try two underscores, followed by NOTOC, followed by two more underscores (four underscores total).--Jon 02:55, 8 April 2012 (MDT)

:::More details here: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Magic_words.--Jon 02:56, 8 April 2012 (MDT)

::::I wasn't able to access that page but I had previously looked into it here. My mistake was seeing the paired underscores as ONE underscore, not two. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Good thing it doesn't work w/only one per side, else there'd be no TOC on this page (seeing as how I didn't add script to kill the wiki formatting in the title of this segment)!

::::Regarding this page getting so much action, I suspect as I get better at all this, I'll pester you less so hopefully there will be less traffic from me as time goes on. But my learning curve hasn't quite flattened out yet; the more I learn the more I realize how little I know, as they say.

::::One last item. I'm going to stop replying w/just "thanks", to lessen the traffic and save you a little time. Please know any time you offer assistance, suggestions, or even criticism, I'm always very appreciative of your help and for your time.--Cobalt327 09:50, 8 April 2012 (MDT)

:::::Sounds good. I usually omit "Thanks" responses too, especially via email. Regarding the link, it looks like it "broke" because I didn't put a space before the period. Here it is again: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Magic_words --Jon 15:01, 8 April 2012 (MDT)
