How to make a custom dashboard

i would like to build a custom dash for my 84' caprice classic but i cant find no ideas or pic of but a few custom dashes to even tri to make one for mine this will be my first one and dont want to mess mine up and have to get another one the factory one isn't bad but dont have much to spend on replacing it please help by sending me links to possibly getting a idea or two!!!

This panel was built to fit in the location of the stock instrument panel.  The empty hole is where a 2-1/16" digital speedometer mounts to keep it hidden, thus making the tachometer the more prominent gauge.
  
Here is one idea.  I built this panel to fit in the location of the stock instrument panel.  The empty hole is where a 2 1/16" digital speedometer mounts to keep it hidden and make the tach the most prominent gauge. Most stock instrument panels can be removed from the dash panel, and a new panel cut from 1/8" aluminum.  Each gauge had to be hand wired since as is the case with most new cars, this one had the gauge panel controlled by the PCM on a data bus.  Lots of work, but the end product is old school.
