If you are putting your vehicle into long term storage which means you will not be using it then why is it important to change the oil?  What would be the difference is you left the old oil in and changed it prior to taking it out of storage?  Isn't the new oil just sit in the oil pan during the storage period?

Because old oil has all kinds of acids & gunk and even H20 moisture that causes rust - new oil not so.
