− | ==1939 Buick==
| |
− | I have a 1939 Buick Special for almost 35 years. I once drove it often and had it in our wedding and I also drove it in a couple parades. Once kids came along it got parked which turned out to be for over 25 years. The body is still in good shape and I have been thinking about making it more drive able with a newer drive train and dropping in a V-8.

− | As much as I enjoyed and like original this may be the best to get this one back on the road. Anybody out there that has done the same? Looking for samples and info.--[[user:24.192.37.214|24.192.37.214]] 20:43, 18 May 2008

− | New to this page hopefully this the correct format to ask a question and show my lack of knowledge about this subject.

− | I have a 1956 Pontiac 2 dr wagon (nice survivor), clean installation of 305sbc/350th, otherwise stock, manual drum brakes, armstrong steering. The car is a pleasure to drive up to about 60 mph. I have no need to drive to over about 75 mph, but I would like it to drive well up to that speed. Hopefully if I could get about 2 degrees of positive caster this might be possibly. Could I have plates welded on to the end of the control arms to add adjustable offset ball joints? I do know that mid '70s Caddys used them. Several aftermarkets companies have them. If this were possible I could change the spindles, brakes etc. and be on the road. If you could do both upper and lower with different offset you might be able to get more than 2 degrees. This would be a cheap and easy. Based on the fact I am not looking for speeds over about 75mph. would this work and would it be safe? Any thoughts? Hopefully someone with more knowledge than myself can help.

− | From what I read it appears converting over to power disc brakes is within my talent and price range. It also appears that with some help I can add a 605 type power steering setup.

− | I do not want to cut the frame, lower the car, or have overly quick steering. I am trying to have a fairly good driver, maintain the outward appearance of a survivor.--[[User:76.97.43.134|76.97.43.134]] 11:31, 24 July 2011
