I have a 70 Chevelle SS396 with a Tilton Super Starter. The "R" terminal is a relay that supplies 12volts to the coil (points style distributor in my case) ONLY when the starter solenoid is activated and the starter is cranking. The directions for installation said to install the wire that used to be connected to the "R" terminal to the "S" terminal with an inline diode to prevent voltage from traveling back to the starter from the coil (thus energizing the solenoid and constantly cranking the engine) after the key is returned to the RUN position.

At first I thought I could get away with not doing this, but found that I would had to run a jumper from the battery to the coil before I tried to crank it. I never did get a diode, but I did rig a relay to activate and send 12v to coil when the ignition switch was turned to "Start".

Hope this helps. If I'm in error, someone please correct me.
