| + | Very good use of junk yard parts. I am a super fan of this type of rodding. MUCH more satisfying than buying a $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ billet widget like every one else has. I have a couple of comments on the engineering of the setup shown here. First, U-joints in a steering system like this or a drive shaft from a transmission to a rear end should be phased so the trunions of the joints on either end of the shaft are parallel. The ones in the picture are in different planes so there could likely be a little 'wobble' in the feel of the steering. Second since there are only two joints being used and both ends of the attached shafts are firmly mounted, the Heim joint idler bearing is redundant. The shaft will be 100% stable without that bearing and in fact, the bearng is overkill and will induce extra stresses since it is impossible to perfectly align three rigid bearing points. May not be dangerous but will still induce unnecessary stresses. | ||
