+ | Check a diagram from a reputable supplier, or manual such as Peterson, Chilton, Mitchell, Perkins or etc. Also NAPA and AutoZone have most of these diagrams, not sure of the other part suppliers. Not much has changed in the area of drum brakes over the years. If the cable end is “just hanging” it means it is not connected to the actuator arm. My thought is; that at some point, a “mechanic” had trouble with its operation or adjustment and just removed it. You can operate a vehicle with no problem without the emergency (parking) brake, and as the parts got rusty some “mechanics” just removed them or the pieces if they had trouble with them.
