Line 1: Line 1:
There are two fundamental forms of garage doors, residential and commercial.   Residential doors frequently are available four sections and while the door is open, they are horizontal.  There also are residential doors that tilt up.  Tilt up doors  are less commonplace than sectional doors.

Garage doors fit into two very broad categories, commercial and residential. Most residential doors are known as sectional doors.  That is, when they go up, they separate into four separate sections to go around the curve in the tracks from vertical to horizontal.  There are a few residential doors that come in one solid part and tilt up.

A Tilt up door is all one piece and just like the title implies tilts up along tracks when the door is opened.  A tilt up garage door can be parallel to the floor when it is open, but requires a little bit more room in which to operate, as a result of the door moves up and out, away from the garage when it's in motion.
+
Just like the identify implies, tilt up doors are multi functional piece and your entire door tilts when it is opened.  They use tracks much like sectional doors, but since they tilt up and out, they use more space to function than sectional doors.

Doors in commercial buildings that are typically used along with loading docks are referred to as roll up doors.  They have many narrow sections, depending on the height of the entrance and when open, they roll around a bar at the top of the door opening.
+
Commercial doors will not be for garages at all, but attached to the partitions of buildings similar to warehouses or the backs of retail stores.  These are normally roll up doors and they are usually adjacent to loading docksA roll up door has many sections, relying on its height and rolls up round a bar on the top of the door opening.  That signifies that the track that the door operates in is completely different than that of a residential door.  It has no horizontal portion of track.
